The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received custody of Sheikh Shahjahan, the suspended Trinamool leader and a major accused in the land grab, extortion, and sexual assault cases in Sandeshkhali, on Wednesday. Shahjahan was subsequently taken by the CBI to Joka ESI Hospital for a medical examination.
The Crime Investigation Department, acting on a directive from the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, turned over custody of Sheikh Shahjahan to the CBI.
On social media, a lot of people uploaded the video of Shahjahan being escorted by CBI agents to the hospital for his examination. Soon after the CBI nearly brought Shahjahan to the hospital, the leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) noticed.
BJP officials’ social media accounts were ablaze with comparisons between the Sandeshkhali accused’s differing treatment by the CBI and the West Bengal police. Leaders also accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of abusing state agencies and ‘defending a rapist’.
.A prominent BJP figure even asserted that Shahjahan’s treatment by the CBI exemplifies the proper treatment of a criminal. Even the walk of the TMC leaders who were suspended and in CBI detention was compared to that of West Bengal police officers.

Head of the BJP’s IT cell, Amit Malviya, wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “CBI is treating Sheikh Shahjahan like a criminal, not way WB Police treated him, which was as though he was Bengal’s Chief Minister. Shame on Mamata Banerjee for protecting a rapist and intimidating Sandeshkhali victims with the help of state government authorities.”
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said, “CBI is treating Sheikh Shahjahan, like he should be treated – a criminal and not like how WB Police treated him, as if he was the Chief Minister of Bengal. Shame on Mamata Banerjee for defending a rapist and using state Govt agencies to intimidate the victims of Sandeshkhali.”

Justice has to win out.” Sukanta Majumdar, the head of the Bengal BJP, wrote.
Senior advisor Kanchan Gupta of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated: “Sheikh Shahjahan, the torturer of Sandeshkhali, was walking in a nawabi fashion a week ago when he was shown in court by Bengal Police. He’s shuffled like a khansama (servant) in CBI custody.”
Despite a Tuesday order from the Calcutta High Court to the police’s criminal investigation department, or CID, the Bengal government had earlier refused to give Shahjahan’s custody to the CBI.
